What to Do in Colmar, France

Follow me to Colmar!

In March, Nick and I went to Basel, Switzerland and we were highly recommended to travel to the Alsace region of France during our trip. This was a great recommendation and I wanted to share it with you all today.

The Alsace region of France includes Strasbourg, Colmar, Mulhouse, and Riquewihr. It boarders Switzerland and Germany on the Rhine River plain and Colmar is just 40 minutes outside of Basel by train.

Arriving in Colmar, we were instantly charmed by this city. The shops and apartments are built in the half-timbered medieval style and drape the city in color. Colmar is also the inspiration behind Belle’s hometown in Disney’s The Beauty and the Beast.

What we did in Colmar, France:

  • Collégiale St-Martin Catholic Church UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_4d6a This Gothic church from the 13th century is a can’t miss. Being that it is on the main walking street, there are plenty of other attractions nearby.
  • La Petite Venise unadjustednonraw_thumb_4d88 France’s answer to Italy’s Venice. This picturesque bridge viewpoint is adorable. Definitely stop for a picture and a pastry.
  • Fontaine Bruat UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_4d91 As you are walking into town from the train station, this fountain is centered in the nearby park. Although it was drained when we saw it in March!
  • Cafes

I would like to recommend Gilg and Pâtisserie Salon de Thé J-C Clergue (located right next to St Martin).

  • We were also recommended to take a tour on Le Petit Train (a great way to see the city without walking), visit the Village Hansi, and see the Adolph House.

We were completely charmed by Colmar and felt that two hours was enough time to see the sights and sample the pastry at a leisurely pace. This small town is well worth a stop if you are in the area. One of the cutest places I have been to in my life.
