New Year’s Eve around the corner, and it is going to be a long night. Hours of dancing, tons of pictures, and hopefully a kiss when the clock strikes midnight. Is your current makeup up for the challenge?
Here are my 5 go-to long lasting makeup products:
-
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder – This powered rocks. It will keep you matte for hours and does not make your face look cake-y at all. The standard size is $37 and the travel is $22.50 and includes a puff to apply the product with. A little goes a long way, so you will have this puppy for a while. I truly standby this product and believe it is worth the money. I have yet to find something at the drugstore that compares (please leave recommendations below if you have any!). The only downside to this product is the bulkiness of the packaging. It is very hard to travel with and I personally feel is too big to slip into your bag for touchups.
- Revlon ColorStay Moisture Lip Stains-This baby will get you through the night! It starts out glossy and after a few hours of wear, dries out to a beautiful stain. It doesn’t crease on the lips and is flexible enough to be layered with Chapstick or another lipstick once it has been on the lips for a while. At only $8.99 each and with 12 shades available (I have “Barcelona Nights” and “Cannes Crush”), you should really try it out. Some find the texture a little gooey before it dries down a little, but I love it. This product is definitely aptly named as it is super moisturizing and the color definitely stays in the form of a stain. It is zero fuss, and I wouldn’t bother retouching it throughout the night (you would want the product to be 100% dry on your lips for that midnight kiss!). The bold colors in the range definitely glam up any party look, so if you pick up one of these lipstains, remember to go easy on the eye makeup. All of the focus will be on your lips once you swipe these bad boys on!
“Barcelona Nights” on at different points throughout my Dallas trip!
-
Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Flared Mascara – I’m not one for false eyelashes (honestly, they freak me out a little so I have never tried them), but I love me some good mascara. I always opt for drugstore options because mascaras dry out so quickly (shelf life of 3 months). This one by Maybelline is one of my favorite drugstore options. At $5.99 you wont break the bank and it comes in a fun purple tube! Also, it is super black and adds a nice voluminous thickness to your lash line. Maybelline mascaras have a notoriously ‘wet’ formula, so be wary. I find that 5 seconds of the hair dryer’s heat on freshly coated eyelashes is the best way to combat that wetness and keep the mascara from smudging onto the eyelid. For any guys out there reading this: yes, these are really issues that women face. Feel #blessed.
-
MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation – This is a foundation that doesn’t quit. It was developed for the film industry, so it is formulated to pull long hours in front of a camera. And it is ultra high definition, how perfect is that for New Year’s Eve pictures?! It feels lightweight, looks natural, and is long wearing. I will note, that it is light to medium coverage, so keep that in mind before splashing out the $43. What really makes this product great for photo taking is that it does not have any SPF in it. I love the SPF factor for day to day, but on a night when lots of photos are being taken, that SPF will just cause flashback, making your face appear white. I wear the color Ivory 115, but there are forty color options in the range, both with pink or yellow undertones (thank you, MUFE, for knowing not all undertones are created equal). My mom and I both wear this product and it suits both of our levels of skin maturities (difference in 30 years). Try it out, it is a good one to keep in your kit.
-
tarte Clean Slate Poreless 12-Hr Perfecting Primer – I hardly wear primers day to day, but on a night like NYE, you will want to bring in the reinforcements. I like this Tarte primer as it is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates; and formulated with antioxidants and vitamins. This primer definitely leaves my skin feeling smoother and helps foundation apply more evenly. The product claims to last 12-hours, and for $31, it better live up to its promises. I find that the product does last well, but I have yet to try it out for 12-hours straight (I am a firm believer in washing off my makeup each night!). This product isn’t the best at erasing pores (I like Benefit Cosmetics’s The POREfessional Face Primer better), however, it works very well under foundation to even out the texture of your skin. If you plan on wearing a primer under your foundation, then go with this product. If you want a primer that can stand alone without a foundation, then try POREfessional.
Well there are my top 5 products for NYE! With these products, you should be able to dance the night away without worry! Now time to figure out what to wear… Happy New Year!
